The Bible in 50 Words (Anonymous)

God made
Adam bit
Noah arked
Abraham split
Joseph ruled
Jacob fooled
Bush talked
Moses balked
Pharaoh plagued
People walked
Sea divided
Tablets guided
Promise landed
Saul freaked
David peeked
Prophets warned
Jesus born
God walked
Love talked
Anger crucified
Hope died
Love rose
Spirit flamed
Word spread
God remained.

perfunctory

i heard that word used the other day, looked it up and thought that this would be a convenient title for this xanga update because it will be a very minimal effort.

2008 is almost wrapped up, and the best time of the year is here.  When the coldness starts settling in, gas prices go down, sales creep up, thanksgiving around the corner, then xmas and new years.  i love it.

As i read my systematic theology book recently, i've really tried to pay attention to the language used and the complex desription of the person of Christ, his deity, his humanity, his two natures, his one person.  so complex on a deep, theological level, and yet so important in the Christian faith because the Christian faith is centered around jesus Christ.  if i don't understand Jesus in the right way, then my faith is easily distorted and possibly wrong.  many of the false religions and beliefs out there are because of their wrong view of Christ, which that changes everything.  there is no one like our Savior.  He is the one and only God-man, the incarnate Son, and yet so personal.

Speaking of personal, i heard our high school pastor give a great sermon this past sunday about the woman at the well.  He was talking about how people keep trying to move forward in their lives, keep striving for their goals without taking care of their heart.  subsequently, a lot of times the path to reach that "goal" in life is filled with compromise and sin.  however, if we keep trying to move on and reach our goals without taking care of our heart issues first, then our system will crash because the person on the inside can't keep up with the person on the outside.  He was explaining how the Samaritan woman asked for the living water and how Jesus responded by exposing her relationship issues.  it's like asking someone how to get to disneyland and the person responds, "hm, bring your husband/wife."  She desired the living water because it would be nice not to "thirst" anymore but without taking care of the person on the inside, the heart issues.  She wanted to skip all of that. =)  Jesus wanted her to see who she was on the inside because that is where true transformation occurs. that is when we experience the living water that only Jesus can offer.  This is so relevant to so many people who try to cover all the issues in their heart and just keep trying to achieve their goals and dreams.  but somewhere along the road, the system (the heart) will crash because it just can't keep up with the person on the outside.

so....perfunctory.  minimal effort. =P

it's officially the end of the summer marked by labor day.  this summer has been a lot of studying and working.  summer school all summer long and work all summer long. it was good staying productive but very exhausting. the last two weeks have been retreats, and now that they're over, i'm ready to start fall semester (even though it started last week).  =)  i can't believe it's already september 08. why do the years go by so fast....or why does it feel like years go by faster than expected.  i guess it goes by as fast as it's supposed to, and we all just want it to slow down. =)

anyway, i have posted about 17 albums on facebook from the past two retreats and our friday night sumo wrestling, so here are some selected ones...hhehehe.

broken face

the brokennes continues as i ate it hard on a wave at the beach and scratched up my face.

i went boogieboarding for the first time, and it was so much fun.  i got a few good ones, and i was getting really confident in it.  there were some huge waves coming and some crazy rip currents prompting a lot of caution warnings from the lifeguards.

well, i really wanted to ride a big wave, and so i waited for a good one.  i saw a big wave coming, but i had a bad feeling about it cuz i didn't feel like i was in the right position. i had a feeling it was going to crash right on me.  as soon as it got to me, i just attempted to ride it, but it completely took me under, tossed me upside down, and slammed my face into the bottom sand.  i felt like my face just hit concrete.  when i slammed my face, my neck snapped back real hard, and i thought i was going to be paralyzed, but THANKFULLY, i could still move everything.  when i got onto my feet, there was blood spewing out everywhere from my nose nonstop and from under my eye.  it hurt so freakin much. it felt like someone just slammed my face and then scraped off the skin.  but seriously, i was so thankful that i didn't get paralyzed.

a few hours later, i got home and put on some neosporin on my face.  if anyone was at the one ABF retreat where i almost died from allergic reaction, same thing happened again. i started reacting to the neosporin, and my whole body started to get real itchy and swollen.  since i knew it was an allergic reaction and that it was severe, i quickly found some benadryl allergy and took 3 pills of that stuff instead of one.   dude, benadryl allergy works soooo well!! the swelling and itching finally subsided after about 20 minutes but then i felt woozy from the benadryl all night long.

i had to go to church and explain the whole story like a million times, but i think people were kinda puzzled as to how sand could have scraped up my face so harshly.  sucks having a broken face, but so thankful i can still move my arms and legs or that i didn't died from the allergic reaction.  man, but boogieboarding was so much fun!

i guess another battle scar to add to the list. =P

as soon as i got out of the water, i took a pic to see how bad it was.  after stopping my nose from bleeding, my face didn't look too bad.

definitely red and bloody under my eye and near my nose.

a few hours later at wendy's, bruising started to show up and more of the redness across my cheek.

at the end of the day, this is the result of act stupid on the boogie board.

i want to go again next week...yeeeah.
